Regarding Religious 'Icons'

Submitted by Ghost Writer on January 06 2001 15:02:43

Okay----I posted abut this on Boy Chat----but since it was turning into a debate I did not want it to turn into, I thought I would post it here.

The link to my origional post is below.

After reading about Babel-17's toilet problems and seeing how the thread turned a clogged toilet into a religious experience, I have a question that has been pinging around in my skull for quite some time now and I thought I would bring it up here.

This is regarding religious "icons".

With Buddism---they have a statue of Buddha.

With Islam---they have "the cresent moon and the star".

With Judaism---they have "The Star Of David".

So---why do the Christians chose something like a "cross" to be THEIR religious icon ???

The reason I ask this is because back in the days of Jesus-----crucifiction was a form of capital punishment. So----why do Christians want to "diefy" something like a form of capital punishment ?

I see people walking around with crosses on their necks like crusifiction is gloryfied beyond measure. How many people would walk around with a gas chamber hanging from their neck ? Or an electric chair ? Or a syringe (for lethal injection) ? Or even a noose for a gallow ??? Or a large blade for a guilleteen ????

I have made a simple observation that Christians pay more attention to Jesus's "form of execution" than they do on why he came to Earth to begin with.

I would much rather see some sort of STAR as the religious icon that Christians use----a star would represent the star that appeared the night Jesus was born and lead the wise men to the stable.

And people need to get something ELSE straight. From what I understand, Jesus was born in a STABLE----not a manger. He was later PLACED into the manger.

Also---why do people assume that Jesus and his parents were POOR the night he was born ???? The only reason they were in that damned stable was because they had no room in the INN. If they were so poor---why were they trying to get a room in the INN to begin with ???

Besides-----the only reason they were in that town that night to begin with was because they were making their yearly trek there to pay their taxes. If they were poor---how could they have paid their taxes ???

it's amazing how historial matters get perverted over the eons.
