The biblical phrase is 'The Word BECAME flesh' - he did not assume it as a garment to be put off, but, rather took full humanity INTO the Godhead by becoming fully human, and human is body mind and spirit, or body and soul, depending on which passage you are looking at.

After our resurrection on the last day, we will have bodies again. Until that time, the only bodies in heaven are those of Jesus, Elijah and Enoch, all of whom were caught up to God.

In that context the I agree with the points about the necessity of the spirit, but the reference to 'Prison' (the obscure passage in I Peter ?)does not mean 'the flesh' in that sense.

There's a lot of complex theology underlying this issue, and much of the first 500 years of the church's history was spent trying to get it right. There are plenty of errors around, of which the 'spirit good / flesh bad' one is one of the most common - but it is an error all the same as it encourages a rejection of many of the good things that God has given us to enjoy!
