Jim has said that it's barbaric to believe that our God must die as a blood sacrifice to cover the sins of mankind. This is a core Christian belief in God that Jim finds very distasteful. He has also shown contempt for other Christian beliefs in my discussions with him. I understand his viewpoint, and some of us have tried to help him understand our viewpoint (without attacking him). I also understand that he finds the words and actions of most Christians as distasteful. I, myself, get more upset with Christians because of their actions than with non-Christians. Afterall, Christians are supposed to know better, aren't they? And this is why I can relate to your other post today expressing concern over the "Christian" response to Jim; however, I have purposely tried to be understanding and not attack him. If anyone saw me acting different, I'd hope that they could quote me and show me since it's something I didn't see and would like to improve upon. I don't think all the replies given to Jim were attacks -- many of us were doing our best to share our views with him in a way that we thought he might be able to grasp. I welcome Jim in this forum since I do think the questions he raises are healthy for discussion; though, I wish he'd be as patient with us as some of us have been with him. ~Splash* Also, I'd hope that some of us who have been trying to share Christian beliefs with non-believers would get a little more "support" from those who supposedly believe the same. I haven't seen the last 72 hours as a flame war but as an opportunity for us all to grow and examine ourselves. I guess I should also take a "back seat" so that more "important changes" can take place (cf. /messages/12387.htm). I'll go back to writing personal e-mails to people like george (/messages/12054.htm) -- "a newbie" -- who got little response to his pleas for help. |
