and the film set in New York - very helpful presentation of the message!but you are right in saying that Christianity should be presented with houmour to break through people's preconceptions; one of the best things to come out of 'charismatic' movement in England was the Riding Lights Theatre Company, who have written a lot of sketches based on Jesus' parables and used them in things like street theatre as well as church based drama presentations; it is probably true to see this as a revival of the medieval tradition of 'Mystery Plays' which were a feature of religous life before the Reformation.

The wider issue of course is the problem of holding the holy otherness of God together with the approachable Father image. Much of the modern church has focused on the later in reaction to Victorian type hangovers that emphasised solemnity. But as a result we are sometimes in danger of losing sight of God's holiness - creating as false a picture of God as the one we are rejecting!!

But I am fascinated that your school put on Godspell - how did the audience and cast react?
