First off,

Yes- what I've written is true. Yes, I've seen it with my own eyes. NO -- I HAVE NEVER BREACHED ANYONE'S SECURITY. I do NOT look at other's IP information and nicknames- the only poster's IPs I've identified I have given me permission to do so before hand. I am a trustworthy source and a trustworthy friend. If you don't belive this ask around-- the people that know me know I'm secure.

Secondly,

Apparently if you change your information in your current ICQ setup most of the people who already have you in ICQ will automatically update to your 'new' nick. This is fixed by others simply clicking your name in their ICQ contact list and selecting 'Rename' (fouth from the bottom), and typing your old nick back in. It takes two seconds, literally. This update of your 'new' nickname doesn't automatically happen with everyone, but most people I've talked to. I'm sorry for the pain in the ass, but it really is the only way to keep yourself secure. An option many have used is renaming using a new nick that is similar to their BC nick. So instead of Asa you might use Assa or instead of BearCub you might use PapaBear (no these are not real examples being used). Once you've done this nick change it might be wise to send a mass message to those in your ICQ list telling them. If you don't know how to do this ask around or email me.

Thirdly the missing info (from my original BC post) on how to check to see if you have the Active Hompage server- aka the House bug- (only in versions 99 and possibly 98) is this: You should see a Services button right above the giant ICQ button on the bottom left of your ICQ program. If you dont, click on the ICQ button and select Advanced Features, and then select Switch to Advanced Mode. Now, click the Services button, and move up and select My ICQ Page. It then will reveal a window with "Active Hompage" listed. If there isn't a check next to it your safe. If there is a check next to it, click on it and it will shut down down the server and keep you safe. That's all there is to it. You can change back to simple mode if you want.

I'll keep you updated if I find out more..

I hope this helps
