The two dogs to not have equal rights

Hi,

A useful illsustration, but just remember the two dogs do not have equal rights! Once you belong to Jesus, your new nature is the real you, and the old nature is just the remains of what you were before. If you imagine the two as equals, and it depends on which you feed, then you have no reason to think that the new nature will win. You're going to think that sometimes one will win, sometimes the other. And if that's what you think, that's probably what will happen. Instead, believe that your new nature is the stronger. It is the one that has the authority to exist in you, who are a child of God. Your old nature has no authority to stay in you. You should think of it as having already lost. That way, it just might lie down and die.

I'm not saying that we can become perfect in this life, and I can't say I've made much progress personally, but I do believe it to be true that the more we believe we are capable of good, the more good we will do. As Neil T. Anderson says, we should not think of ourselves as "sinners (saved by grace)" but as "saints (who sometimes sin)"

Jules
