Dear Chris, I checked out the article in Paraklesis that you made reference to: A Theology of Freedom and Play, and Intergenerational Relationships by Donald Mader. Indeed, the article contained a lot of good points, though I admit being a bit uncomfortable with (though not entirely opposed to) the idea of defining sex as ‘play’, since it can then easily be (and often is) separated from its proper context of a committed relationship. I give an affirmative nod to all you had to say in regards to sex inside and outside of marriage, differing degrees of sexual sin and the ability of God to judge justly. That said, I am still unclear (even after reading your letters, also included in the edition of Paraklesis you referenced me to) as to your position in regards to same gender sex and/or intergenerational sex – sin or not sin. I believe that neither (same gender or intergenerational relationships) are sin so long as they conform to the model God provided us in Scripture for intimate relationships. Such a belief, however, does not alter the fact I am committed to celibacy, but relates back to how this thread originally was started – that being my depression over celibacy being forced on me by society. After reading your letters in Paraklesis, I have been deeply moved by your story and experiences. I am wondering whether there has been any resolution to the problems you were facing where the letters ended off or if they are still unresolved. Having gone through the legal system for a BL related crime (from arrest, plea, sentencing, prison, therapy to probation) I may be able to help.
