Sometimes the docs get it right!

My 'YF' (as I've described him in the past) was diagnosed as having depression last February; dropped out of college in another city, where he'd been getting into quite a mess - lots of alcohol, not a lot of study. The doctor put him on some other anti-depressant - not Prozac - and he got a lot better quite fast. He's now holding down a job living back at home round here and seems fine now, though to be honest it is hard to know from his exterior that much has changed, but he is off the drugs.

Similarly a close friend (to the extent of knowing I am a BL) got depression; he's married with 2 kids - the pressure of them might have been what set it off. He stopped work for a time, but is now fully recovered, again with the help of drugs and some counselling.

'Clinical depression' is a fairly clearly defined disease, and there's not a lot of controversy about its diagnosis and treatment in most cases - where it is chemically caused - as it was in the case of both my friends. However where it is more a psychological issue, then it becomes far more fraught. On the whole however I would strongly encourage you to go and see a doctor - though don't start talking about the BL issue in a hurry; that raises lots of issues!!
