Hi Chris, This is certainly a topic that I have crossed alot lately. First and foremost, one of my close friends in church is a recovering alcaholic. My church has a very very successful program, similar in some ways to AA but much more Christian focused and in fact with a much higher success rate. I do not believe that attraction to boys is an addiction in itself, any more than attraction to women might be. However what probably develops from a lack of ability to live out our attraction as heterosexuals do leads us into sexual addiction through our eventual pursuit of pornography or whatever. My life today is identical in most respects to the lives of other pornography addicts that I have read about. I have read Ted Roberts "PURE DESIRE", a life changing book about a Christian pastor addicted to pornography. Although he was looking at pictures of nude women and I am looking at pictures of shirtless boys, the lifestyle and characteristics are basically the same. My church has also started a sexual addiction program, based on the concept of the alcahol recovery program, but with the acknowledgement that the goal in dealing with sexual addiction is not complete abstinence from sex. It is to discontinue using sex to medicate our feelings. I actually bailed out of the group after 3 weeks because I felt that I was not ready to recover yet. In a sense, I have not hit bottom in my own heart. Nevertheless, I believe that when I am really ready to change, that I can recover from using sexual fantasy in an addictive way. What should be left is a love for boys, but an ability to have sex be something that is fun and enjoyable, not medicative. I'd love to talk more on the topic if you want. You are not alone.
