Well, I'm not going to debate US policy abroad. I don't agree with everything this country does, but I do support the response to 9/11. My fingers would fall off before we ever came to any solutions on that. If you don't agree, that's fine.

But I would like to put something out for your consideration. Let's take the focus away from war and politics, things neither of us has had much close up exposure to, and let's bring it home. Why do you think you are relatively safe to walk down the street without someone taking what they want from you? How can you go to sleep each night without worrying about someon breaking in? Why can you go to an ATM and withdraw money without a huge fear of being robbed? How is it that women can usually walk down the street without being raped? Most people are not robbers or rapists or murderers, but there are enough potential criminals out there that the only thing that keeps them at bay is the fear of getting caught and paying a heavy price for their actions. Or maybe you don't look at being put in prison as violence. Well how are you going to get them there unless there are the police who WILL do violence upon them if they resist. How are you even going to arrest them without the threat of violence. What kind of world would we be living in if there was no threat of violence to keep chaos at bay? Do you think everyone is going to be non violent just because a few thousand people decide to live that way? A few Million? Billion? Whatever the number, those that have no qualms about being violent will always prey on those who do. Unless there are people that WILL use violence on your behalf, such as the police or military. One necessary way to combat violence is with the THREAT of retaliatory violence. And for that threat to have any meaning, sometimes it has to be backed up with action.

This is Earth, 2002. Not Heaven. I respect your chioce to try to be non-violent and find better solutions. We need people like that. But please remember that the only reason you even have the right to choose is because people died to give you that right. And not all died as martyrs. Many died as soldiers, whether it be soldiers in the military, or soldiers of a kind on the home front such as police. You don't have to agree with people that choose that path. But I hope you at least respect them.
