Chris,

Glad to see you online, thinking and sharing!

Yes, I'd go along with what you're saying. It reminds me a bit of Neil T. Anderson's books such as Victory over Darkness. Not to take away from your thinking, but to encourage you that you're on the right lines!

He says there's nothing that transforms our life more than thinking of ourselves as "saints (who sometimes sin)" rather than as "sinners (saved by grace)". We were sinners, then we've been saved by grace, but now we're saints! The old nature still tries to re-assert itself, but we are more likely to give in to it if we think of our main identity as "sinners", and more likely to overcome if we think of our main identity as "saints". Paul certainly thinks of himself ("I") as the saint part, and puts sin down to something else! I suppose the only danger of this is going too far and saying that we're perfect when we're not, or not taking full responsibility for our failures.

Some people think Romans 7 is not about Paul's personal experience, but his way of describing the whole Jewish nation before Christ, but either way, the same principle applies.

God bless you Chris!

With Christian love,

Jules
