This is getting more philosophical all the time, and I'm not interested in going there. No one knows exactly what hell is like and no one knows exactly how many people will go there. So your contention that only an insignificant number of people will get to heaven isn't valid. I believe there will be a lot more people in heaven than you think. If you want to debate the criteria for getting into heaven, debate it with God. He is the only one who decides, not me. You're getting so wrapped up in the legalistic side of Christianity, you are totally missing the personal relationship side of it. Remember that the Pharisees were overly focused on the legalism and Jesus called them a brood of vipers.

Somehow, we inherited a sin nature from Adam and Eve after they sinned. Now it is not possible to go thru life never sinning, which is why we needed God to make a way of salvation. Before Jesus, the way to be saved involved many rituals and sacrafices. Now, Jesus has paid the final price to make it as easy as possible for us. All we have to do is accept it. What exactly one has to do to "accept it" has been debated for years, and we aren't going to come to a final conclusion here.

I am not a Christian to escape hell. I am a Christian because I love Jesus. I love Jesus because he loves me and has shown me His love in so many ways. I would follow Jesus even if everyone got to heaven regardless. So while debating the whys and hows that is in the Bible may be an interesting discussion to have around the coffee table, it has little to do with the personal relationship one can have with Jesus, the living God. This is the main point of Christianity, not trying to decipher how God will judge or His reasoning. We can no more comprehend God's ways than an ant can understand nuclear physics. God has told us and shown us things so that we can understand enough to have a true, non-blind faith in Him. But don't think for a minute that you can disect the Bible and understand everything as you might take apart a clock to understand how it works. If we could comprehend everything about God and his ways as we can a clock, we would be making worlds and people from nothingness ourselves.

When I get on a plane, I don't understand exactly how that heavy piece of metal can fly. I know a little, but not much. But I still will get on that plane and trust it to work as it should. Why? Because others have flown safely. And I have seen it fly. And most importantly, I have flown before myself and know first hand it works. If I refused to get on a plane till I understood every aerodynamic principle and mechanical reason it flies, I would never get on a plane. It's somewhat similar to faith in God, with the exceptions that God never crashes, and no matter how smart we think we are and how much we study, we will never understand things completely, as God does. So while you are busy trying to figure out every detail about how the plane works, flights are leaving daily without you aboard.
