Because you people NEVER publicly disavaow or repudiate what the extremists say and do. If you don't oppose them, then as far as the rest of enlightened society is concerned, you're in league with them.

"For as by one man's [Adam] disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one [Jesus] shall many be made righteous" (Romans 5:19).

Though we were once guilty by association through Adam, we can now be made righteous by association through Jesus. "We" are no longer "in league" with the evils of the rest of the world (no matter if we share the same race, religion, sex, etc).

As long as people of hate and ill-will infest your religion, and NO ONE speaks out against it in the strongest possible terms, you will always have some guilt by association.

Jesus said, "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:23).

Jesus WILL speak out against them "in the strongest possible terms." If they are not associated with Jesus, they are not associated with me and are not of my "religion" even if they say they are Christian and do things in Jesus' name.
