Malcolm disavowed a lot of the beliefs of the NOI after his Hajj, and according to many Muslims the NOI is a sect. Its a matter of perspective I guess, a person close to me certainly views it as a sect because of his Fathers personal involvement. You and he would likely have a interesting discussion on that, his father was NOI at one time and in the Black Panthers in Chi town doing the hot meal program for a time and now is very conservative and critical of most all civil rights groups, in other words sort of a pariah often called an Uncle Tom very much like Walter E. Williams or Joe Clark. I get the term sect from him as he has no respect for Farrakhan despite positive messages there are far to many negatives from his involvement.

He left the Nation at the same time Malcolm back when Farrakhan was still Louis X, and he started to become more conservative and religiously more mainstream Islam. He does not believe that Farrakhan wasn’t involved in Malcolm's murder nor does he buy into their attempt by the NOI to reclaim Malcolm as one of their own. He was involved at the time you see and you can’t convince him that what happened didn’t happen, there was a lot of bad blood there that it seems they want to forget today. I know you probably have a different view and while I respect that, this is where I get my perspective, I would be interested in yours.

Why is Farrakhan off limits but you wouldn't consider Jerry Fallwell off limits in discussing fundamentalists views on Homosexuality?
