Huck,

I can tell you from personal experience not to read too much into the feelings you and/or he are having. I have a step-nephew that I've known since he was 10 (now 17), and he and I have shared some very incredible moments, but nothing ever happend physically between us. When I say incredible, I mean things like this:

After a youth group sponsored ice skating field trip, my car broke down dropping him off at home. He invited me in to spend the night. I accepted, fully knowing that his parents had their reservations about me.
We slept together in his dbl futon. I dont think I got more than 1 complete hour's worth of sleep that night. About three am, I woke up and found that "M" had laid his head on my belly, not more than two or three inches from my zipper, and his hand was covering my crotch with a little a bit more pressure than would seem normal for a sleeping boy. My heart sank and I only hoped it was a purposeful thing. I whispered his name and he looked up at me with whimpering eyes. Not a word was spoken for the longest 60 seconds of my life.

I swear he wanted something to happen that night, and so did I. But alas, it didn't, and I never slept at his house again...things just didn't work out that way. I never stopped hanging out with him, and a thousand more unexplainable stares and glares were shared by each of us...but he's 17 now, with a girlfriend he plans to marry.

I dont know if there is a moral to this story, except to say that things aren't always what theys seem at first. Society has a point when they say that young people aren't able to understand love enough to consent to man/boy relationships. What "M" was feeling was a temporary thing, in my opinion. For selfish reasons I regret not giving into whatever might have happend that night, but I understand that that may have altered the course of his life forever.

What your experiencing with you 13 yo YF may only be temporary. It's one of those things where you've got to let time run it's course. If at some point you feel he's old enough to understand the bonds of man/boy love...maybe there is something there.

I feel as though i'm starting to babble so I"m gonna stop here.
