"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1John 1:9) You are right when you say that God doesn't rate sin as one being worse then the other, sin is sin in Gods eyes! "So why do I feel so much worse than if I had perhaps said an unkind word, or not told a cashier that she undercharged me?" Because you are human, because you, like all of us have victims of society. God doesn't rate sin, but society does and we are subjected to that everyday, so its only natural that you would feel "much worse then if ..." Rest in the assurance of Gods love and mercy, turn to him, confess your sins and like 1John 1:9 says, he will forgive you and cleanse you of all unrighteousness. "it's left me with a lot of guilt" -This is, I believe, just a normal reaction to what occured, but remember this, guilt is NOT from God! Ask him to forgive you and remove your guilt & trust him to do so. "You see, even though I'm sorry I sinned, there's still a big part of me that's glad it happened". I assure you, that most of us here would have felt the same. I have lost count of the times that I have done something I knew was wrong and later regreted it, but deep down, there was a part of me that loved every minute of it! Thats just human nature, thats our "old nature" rearing its ugly head. I believe that God knows when we are about to fail him, he knows that we will inevitably fail and when we do, he waits patiently for us to turn to him for forgiveness and strength. Don't cut yourself up over this, what happened doesn't make you a bad person, it doesn't make you some evil monster, not in Gods eyes! Unfortunately, you can't change what you did, what's done is done and as hard as it is not too, you can't continue condemning yourself over it because it will only make matters worse and it gives Satan great satisfaction, trust me I know! |
