Yeah, I am more or less in the same scenario as you (except that, my girlfriend doesn't have children :-)).
She is also very involved with teaching and befriending children herself, so for me it has not arisen any "need" for telling her about BL, although she knows to a great extent that I tend to befriend and help a lot of children, specially boys and their families. I've known some cases of special, gifted children over the past years, who were in the middle of conflictive, unsupporting and unloving family frameworks; then I used to focus on the good things I could do for the boy and comforting him and that. I've been shown tons of love and support in my local church, all kids there know me and they love me, it's not unusual when I get there at the beggining of every service, to be hugged and greeted by a number of boys (and also girls!) there. This is maybe the best proof that I have had (and have) the potential to be a blessing for them all.
I talk with my girlfriend sometimes about the need I feel for caring for children, and specially boys as they would tend to cluster around me more probably than girls, I mean, for some people could seem disgusting that a little girl came to me asking about personal trouble or such, so I guess this is a good reason to explain why I feel more oriented towards helping boys (maybe I am not really a BL, but a CL --child lover, or helper, or PROTECTOR as Muddyfox uses to call it, and I tend to think being a BL just because the chance has not arisen (yet?) of helping a girl in a way that I see genuine progress, and identification with her needs and struggles).
Oh well, enough for now I guess. :-)
I would like to see more posts here relating to this issue; I think it is a very important matter that we should not disregard (for us that we have a girlfriend, or spouse).
God bless, peace in Jesus Christ,

cutie
