The position of being FORCED to stay away from boys through sanctions by my church community, which included isolation, loss of privledges, and threats of "exposure" was something that I found to be quite unhealthy. Not exactly the same as someone choosing to avoid relationships, but it was instructive to me. Though the premise was that "if your right hand offends you, cut it off", in practice it seemed that trying to live without boys was much more like cutting out my heart. I could find no joy in that life.

My purpose in moving out of that situation is to find a way to live the life God has given me more honestly. I am a boylover, so let me love boys! Every experience in my life has prepared me to do the task well. It is the thing that can bring me real satisfaction in life. I only need a little accountibility to ensure that the process is good for the boy as well. I want to find out what healthy mentoring relationships can do in the lives of boys.

Of course there is a risk involved and it would be safer for me to stay on the sidelines, but I would be forever disappointed with my life. Personally, I am willing to take some risks to see what God can do with my life in the lives of others.

Nate
