J,

The answer to why God allowed your mother to be taken away may not be one you want to hear, but I think I can say that Paul would never have heard the word of Christ unless circumstances being what they were allowed you to witness to him. Paul, when he understands God's love better, may be able to tell others in the prison about Christ or in years yet to come, be able to talk to other alcoholics about how you forgave him despite what he did and that the love of Christ, our famnily, is stronger than his addiction. I really believe you changed Paul's life by what you said to him, and I praise God for your heart like Christ, willing to forgive his persecuters. That's one of the last things He said as he hung on the cross in pain, just as you felt confronting Paul. Perhaps that will prevent another boy from having to lose his mother in the future.

In the mean time of waiting to get all the answers in Heaven, as I said, God's family is big. You will have 100s of mothers that God will bring into your life who will help you just like Maverick has as your dad. A mother-figure doesn't have to be biologically related to you for you to know and love them. You know that because of how you feel for Maverick. I know there is no substitute for the real thing, but you helped carry God's message to someone who needs it, and He will certainly provide for you the people that you need when you need them most.

I had a young friend your age who I mentored since he was 11. His dad died just as your Mom did, but he was older--8 when that happened. We hung out a lot, I talked to him on the phone, and he is now in college with a scholarship and a steady girl friend. I know you will be fine and stronger and be able to help other kids who have lost thier parents too. It's always hard now, but the decisions you've made and the wisdom you've shown shows that God is more powerful in your life than the sadness that would've driven other kids off the deep end. Just take these things day by day. I know God's love rules in your heart. You will overcome. You're awesome!! Don't let the world tell you less. Just do your best and let God do the rest.

Blessings,
Oliver
