No - not what I understand Christianity to require. At the beginning of the bible is the story of the Fall - whether you understand it metaphorically or literally, if it is to have any meaning it is a statement that the world is not as the good creator intended it, and the hope is that God will 'wipe away every tear' - not that we will do it ourselves. Which is what the cross IMO is about - it is the means that lets God get back what is his, which otherwise would suffer for ever from the evil that is in the world..... But humanity won't achieve it on its own. |
