...but that doesn't make me feel much better. The fact is that there are plenty of good people in the world. The problem is that the unscrupulous tend to be more ambitious, because they have a tendancy to desire some form of power. This can be seen at the voting booth too, like what happened recently in the French elections, when La Pen got a disproportionate representation in the elections because of the apathy of the average Frenchman and the tenacity of the far-right. The thing is, I don't believe we're doomed! I think these problems are very fixable! I think it's possible we can fix these ourselves, but it takes EFFORT, and if there's one bad thing modern society has given us, it's a distinct lazy streak. Believing isn't enough, it must be backed by action. I think the same is true for religion, in my untrained opinion. |
