It is true that "emotional harm can happen because of the sexual component in the relationship and because of the way society views it". If the relationship does not contain any sexual component, then it does not not matter whether society condemns it or not. There will be no harm, because nothing sexual has happened.

My point was that if society did not condemn it, there would be no harm either. On the other hand, society can create harm where there is no harm at all. This is a fact that historians and anthropologists know very well (psychologists also knew this until approx. 25 years ago, when they chose to become an important part of the gross domestic product and forgot it). I don't know how old you are, maybe you are simply too young to have experienced this.

Most of mankind, specially in the past, does not know and has never known any shame in connection with sex play between children and adults. Today, however, they look at satellite TV made in Hollywood, so they learn to feel ashamed very quickly. Governments also do their best to make them feel ashamed.

Eskimos had no Hollywood-TV during the long winter nights in Greenland, and they would probably have bored themselves to death if they had not sucked and rubbed each other's private parts... men, women and kids. You can for instance see a mother and her child here:

These peoples did it without shame and harm for many generations, but I guess that psychologists are about to reach Greenland today, so I don't know how long this will be allowed to continue.
