But you beat me to it. I always knew that they did it, it was blatantly obvious. I think this entire case was a travesty of justice. First there were two conflicting trials presented by the same unethical prosecutor, who in my opinion should be disbarred (it is unethical for a prosecutor to prosecute someone for a crime he/she does not actually believe the accused committed, and in this case it is impossible that the prosecutor believed both of his conflicting stories). The second travesty of justice happened when the boys were convicted, by an incompetent jury (as most juries are) of a crime they did not commit (second degree murder without a weapon). The crime they actually committed is first degree murder (with a weapon). The jury went off on a wild tangent and came up with a story that neither the prosecutor nor the defense attourneys presented. The third travesty of justice is what we saw today. Two cold blooded murderers who showed absolutely no remorse after killing their own father (actually they laughed and bragged about it later), recieved little more than a slap on the wrist. As cute as Alex might be, it does not change the fact that he is a disturbed individual, a cold blooded murderer (possibly sociopathic) who is not fit to live in society, yet will be released in 7 years to kill again. The only sensible thing that I saw during this trial was the throwing away of the original verdict. The defense attourneys were right at this point. The jurors were confused by the news that there is someone else on trial for the same crime. They couldve (and mightve) rationalized that since there is someone else on trial for the crime, then there is evidence that it was that other person who did it. Combined with the fact that the other person is an adult and a pedophile, it becomes much easier for them to assume that the adult pedophile did these crimes and not the innocent looking kids they were judging. Had there been no other trial, they couldntve reached that conclusion, they wouldve had to concede that all the evidence the state gathered points at only two individuals and they are the two individuals whom the jurors were judging (Alex and Derek King). Apparently the judge was very competent. He did the right thing.
