I guess the difference for me is that as a Brit who's experienced a fair amount of terrorism in my own land, the present situation isn't SO different from before 9/11; as with 1917 and 1941, once more America has come to realise what the rest of us have talking about and suffering for a substantial period. Having the Red Army only a day away gave us a different perspective for the whole of the cold war. So let's hope for some clear and quick outcomes...

But also somewhere along the line I've given up on this world. This has a healthy element - it means that things here don't matter so much to me; I've bet my life on the truth of the bible to the extent of living a single celibate life. But also it means that I tend to fail to understand how important this present world is to people - and so don't show them the understanding out of real love that I should, as well as tending to withdraw into my comfortable ivory tower! Not so good.

But it's great to see that you are still around
