It took me an hour searching the Internet to figure out what you were talking about. The word caritas seems to be owned by the Roman Catholic Church, but I finally found reference to it in several Latin lexicons: ca•ri•tas Pronunciation: (kä'ri-täs"; Eng. kar'i-tas"), [key] —n. Latin. charity. caritas : charity. caritas : high price /high cost of living /dearness, affection. caritas -atis f. [dearness , high price]; esp. [high cost of living]. Transf., [affection, love, esteem]. I have to say that this is the first time that I have seen someone use a Latin concept to try to justify their stance on the Greek/Hebrew scriptures. You threw me for a loop, there. OK, so you are saying that there must be genuine love in any BL relationship? Agreed. That wasn't so hard, eh? I don't know anything about the extra-biblical writings. So far, I have not needed to search farther than the canonized books to understand what Jesus was teaching. I occasionally look elsewhere to try to get a picture of the cultural norms of the time, and I think that is helpful in interpreting what is intended and what is not said in the Word. I also think that the "flesh" is not in itself sinful - but there are clear teachings regarding the "sins of the flesh", though I think these points are often misinterpreted. Instead of avoiding these scriptures, why not look at what the original words really mean? I think that you will find the concept of caritas throughout. Peace, Nate |
