Well, I'd say that they might have had the strength inside them, but they didn't know God. They probably weren't Christians and didn't have a personal relationship with Him. Thus when life seemed to tumble apart, they had nowhere to turn to. For those Christians who committed suicide, their relationship with God was probably at a low point - maybe their faith was being severely tested or they had just grown farther apart from Him.
