I havent seen L.I.E. yet, but the movie "happiness" also made an attempt at depicting a pedophile in a more humane light. It failed to do so because it's difficult to feel compassion for a character that raped two children (one of which disappeared and we arent told what happened to him). But it was a good attempt. If they wouldve replaced the character's actions with something less horrid, perhaps having him be arrested for simply looking at some pictures, then maybe they wouldve achieved their goal. The rest of it was pretty well done, they captured the character's pain very nicely. The fact he knew he had a problem and tried to tell his wife ("honey, Im sick" "take some aspirin") but couldnt. The way that this affected his relationship with his son. The way his family was hurt by society's reaction when they found out. It was all flawlessly done. If only they wouldn't have ruined it by turning the character into a child molester.

The existence of that movie makes me think that some day they will get it right. It obviously wont be with garbage like what this person wrote, but there is hope out there that someone will get it right. When they do, will it make a difference? I doubt it. But at least Id have something to reffer people to when they wonder about the bad feelings of being a pedophile.

As for the good side? theres always "The Man without a Face" and "Hearts in Atlantis".
