Tedd - One of the things that I have noticed in the bible is that God seems to challenge those who he loves the most. Look how the Egyptians lived in the times of Genesis and Exodus, while the Jews were slaves followed by wandering through the desert. Yet the Jews were his chosen people. Perhaps it is through adversity that God has the chance to show his true love by delivering us when we finally believe in him. I also have to believe though, that those who turn away at such adversity and "grumble", to use the verb from the NIV, is the opposite of what God wants. He wants you to believe that he will be by your side. Take what I say with a grain of salt, however. I am hardly an informed scholar at this point. More like a Jew turned agnostic at this point :) I'm learning more each day though. You are not alone. Ben |
