Hi Ben,

After reading Mr. John Guard's reply to your post, I believe I am at a loss for words to add anything to that. Well said John, I loved every sentence.

I guess the only thing I can add is something that opened my eyes about Jesus a few years ago. I have always believed that Jesus is who He says He is by my own faith, not requiring a lot of proof. However, after trying to drink myself to death over the course of 15 years (give or take a few), the devil had ample opportunity to play around with my beliefs, faith, and actual thinking process for that matter. After 15 or so years of heavy alcoholic drinking, my sanity was leaving me. Thank God for His Word and some very great Christian authors.

There is one particular author who impressed me, largely because at one time this man was a big time athiest. His name was (he is now deceised) C.S.Lewis. In his book,"Mere Christianity", he explored the idea of Jesus being the actual Son of God, the Messiah. He gave quite a few really great and logical points but one line of reasoning has always stuck with me. Please let me give you this quote from his book that has truly opened my eyes (and kept them open) for quite some time. This is going o be kind of lengthy but I think it is worth every word.

Quote from "Mere Christianity" by C.S.Lewis
From the chapter "What Christians Believe"

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, The Son of God: or else a madman or something worse."

"We are faced, then, with a frightening alternative. This man we are talking about either was (and is) just what He said or else a lunatic, or something worse. Now it seems obvious that He was niether a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God. God has landed on this enemy-occupied world in human form."

I hope this helps you out as much as it does me. I love the writings of C.S.Lewis because of his reasoning and logic. I am praying for you, Ben, that God will show you His truth in a great way that you will not only understand but be able to take it into your heart and make it part of your faith. God bless you my brother.

Your brother in Christ,
Chris
