that observation still wouldn't discount the VIRGIN Birth, because Joseph actually planned to divorce Mary when he found out about her pregnancy (Matt 1:19). So obviously he wasn't sleeping with her (nor did he until Jesus was born, v25). Actually, there would have been no divorce. She would have been stoned to death if it were discovered that she was having a baby and it wasn't Joseph's. I can't remember where but I found a translation of the original Aramaic text online at one time and read Matthew (among other books, while comparing it to the King James). Verse 25 was not in the Aramaic text that I read. (I'd reference it for you but I lost all my bookmarks because of some glitch in my machine and haven't been able to find it again. Sorry.) |
