Points taken. :) I think that what you say about ex-gay ministries is exactly how I feel about boylovers. A boylover on another board wrote to me recently (and I don't think he'll mind me reprinting his words here), "I suspect from reading your words that you still have a woolly fuzzy warm feeling about these poor guys here . . . It is clear that all the online boylovers . . . come from a hugely diverse human grouping. There are lowly people here and there are mediocre people but there are also convincingly elevated people of earned stature. That is the nature of the beast you see. Boylovers can be doctors, priests, politicians and beggars. They can be geniuses and they can be cretins. The common factor here is our sexuality and our deep attachment to boys." Take, for example, the article you linked to. Whenever I read articles like this, I wish so much that I knew what was going through the mind of pedophile. Was he a predator, using the boy for his own sexual satisfaction? (If so, it's unlikely that he considered himself a boylover.) Did he unwittingly coerce an unwilling boy into sex? Did he believe that the boy really wanted the sex? If so, what was his belief based upon? Did he consider other factors besides the willingness of the boy? Did he engage in a long struggle with himself over this matter, or did he just follow his hormones? And, of course, even when one has gone through all of the different varieties of sexually active pedophiles, one is still left with the billion varieties of celibate pedophiles (which describes all the regulars on this board, I believe). So here's to our mutual fight against black-and-white views of the world, and of an acknowledgment of variety in human beings. Heather |
