a most humbling experience....

i just wanted to share something with all y'all out there... as many of you know, i work in an educational setting with many different groups of kids. mostly i deal with public schools, but today i had the awesome privilege of having a christian school. after we were done with all of our activities, they sat down and had devotions. i did not want to interrupt by cleaning up, so i sat aside and watched and listened. what i saw and heard was incredible. a group of six of them had prepared a devotion for the other thirty students. as they talked, did a few short readings and a cool demonstration, i could not speak, or even move. as i saw them, praising god, singing songs to him, regardless of the other public school that could certainly hear them, and standing up fearlessly speaking in front of a large group of their peers about our awesome God and his wonderful power and grace, i sat in wonderment. how often we get so caught up in what we want or think we need, or feel sorry for ourselves, or spend much time asking God and not waiting for Him. their devotion lasted about ten minutes, and it hit me more powerfully than any hour i have spent in the last month alone with God. they got it right, short and simple...they simply looked, saw a mighty God, and worshipped Him for who he is. they did not ask, did not demand, did not even beg a tiny favor. all they did was pay homage to the greatest God (and the only God) in all the heavens and the earth.... man, what i would not give to be twelve again, and to be able to merely accept Him....like a child....(not that i did that when i was twelve, i just wish i could do it like a child of twelve...) a loved child of God, scott |
