FOD -
Sorry to have caused so much commotion in recommending a bible :) I own two copies of the NIV, love it, and only go to other versions to verify that controvertial passages are not presenting a biased interpretation. The NIV is pretty sound.

Your meaning behind the phrase "fundamentalist" make sense - sticking to the fundamentals, not tolerating less than a full committment in oneself. I figure in that sense we all should be "fundamentalists".

Most fundamentalists can't figure out why most non-fundamentalists don't come to this conclusion. I can only speak for my church: We are not trying to prove that we are better than anyone, we just don't feel that we have any authority to water down what God commands us. I have struggled immensely with biblical commands about homosexuality. It doesn't seem to make sense that God would create people with different orientations and then only allow those who are straight to get into heaven. On the other hand, I see alot of problems with homosexuality including an inability to procreate, AIDS, and persecusion (this being the lesser of the three of course :-) Still, instead of concluding that because it doesn't seem right then maybe the bible is wrong, I try to look at why God might allow homosexuality to exist (and boylove for that matter....if it actually fits into the same category). I don't have an answer yet....but I also don't know yet where God is leading me. I only trust that he has my life in his hands and will bless me.

You are not alone.
