At least, do so if you belong to the United Methodist Church; that's when they're scheduled to read Song 2:8-13, in accordance with the Revised Common Lectionary, which is used by many denominations. Other denominations, in a celebratory manner, followed the Revised Common Lectionary by reading the verses on July 4 of this year. I am sorry to report that the Episcopal Church, which boasts that it reads the entire Bible in its daily prayer, gives the Song of Songs a miss. I read last night that the oldest medieval artistic representations of physical affection were illustrations of the Song of Songs (the man was Christ and the woman was the Church or the individual soul). But to answer your question: Yes, I've heard the Song of Songs in church. My husband and I picked it for our wedding. :) Heather |
