It's not so much "wrong with" – it's the fact that "sexual orientation" is a modern concept (invented in the late nineteenth century, I believe), and therefore should be as much subject to scientific inquiry as any other theory. You see, if you are (say) a man who is attracted to men, you will today encounter two beliefs: 1) Most men are attracted to women. A small number of men are attracted to men, and this is due to illness/sin. 2) Most men are attracted to women. A small number of men are attracted to men, and this is good. (This is Jim's position, obviously.) If you'd lived in classical times, though, the two positions you would have heard were this: 3) Most men are attracted to both men and women. Men's attraction to men is due to corruption/sin. 4) Most men are attracted to both men and women. This is good. Obviously, that puts the societal debate in a whole different arena. Heather |
