Hi Chris -
Great that you learned what you did about having a relationship with God.

There is no question that God wants the kind of relationship with us that a father would want with his son. First, and foremost, he CREATED us, as a father creates a son. A father doesn't have children so that he can control and scold them, but instead a father wants his child to love him. In order to make the child a better person though, the father has to discipline his child, yet he still has an unending capacity to forgive his son.

One of the things that I would recommend you look further into, is if your relationship with God is deep enough, intimate enough and frequent enough, that you feel close to your 'dad'. People who run through endless motions every Sunday are hardly forging a relationship. I pray a couple of times a day, and when I feel myself losing touch with God, I will fast or give myself some other reminder to walk with God all day. My church teaches heavily on living ones daily life for God. That kind of a daily relationship with God, is what makes a Christian more than just someone with a label.

You are not alone.

Ben
