Read Romans 5-6, particularly the beginning of 6. My personal stake is that yes, Christ's blood has paid my way into heaven, but if I live a righteous life (my life isn't as righteous as it should/could be), I will be less exposed to the earthly consequences of sin (my own and that of others), and will be happier. It's kind of like if you don't drink and drive you are more likely to not hurt someone in and auto accident. Of course, this is a probabilistic statement - Job had it pretty bad, and the rain falls on the just and the unjust.
