In fact, that's the sort of thing St. Silouan said, too. :) As I see it, the problem isn't with the Christian religion per se, it's with the way many Christians embody their faith. The Crusades, Eastern European pogroms, slavery, apartheid -- these are all demonstrations that Christians have failed to understand the most important commandment. (cf. Matt. 24:37-40) Still, as with everything, failure is more visible than success. The ones who do practice what they preach are generally not the type to seek publicity. Dirk |
