Still, as with everything, failure is more visible than success. The ones who do practice what they preach are generally not the type to seek publicity.

You make an excellent point but, in doing so, you also validate my position. If those who practice what they preach are not the type to seek publicity, then it falls to those who DO NOT practice what they preach to be in society's view. And if the more visible members of the Christian church are not interested in practicing what they preach, then they must be interested in preaching what they practice...namely a corrupted form of the religion. And, by extension, if the more visible members of the church are preaching a perverted Christianity than it only follows that it will spread more rapidly than the true (core) religion.
