I rely on my local church (as well as other parts of the body) for their gifts of discernment, teaching, and other gifts, just as they rely on me.

If a part of the body (say, "fundamentalists churches" as a whole) teach one thing and I recognize they have a gifts of teaching and discernment, and another part of the body (say, "liberal chruches" as a whole) teach an opposing viewpoint and I recognize they to have those gifts, I am in a bind.

Finding out what God's will for my life in whatever the subject-at-hand is involves looking at all learned viewpoints, praying, doing my own research, more praying, and listening for the voice of God.

All the while I know that my understanding of God's will is incomplete, as is the understanding of "fundamentalists churches" and "liberal churches".

By the way, the issue of homosexuality in the PC(USA) isn't one of salvation, it's one of who is entitled to be an elder, deacon, or minister.
