The paper of these guys, which was published last year if I remember correctly, ended up attracting attention from "Dr" Laura Slessinger and others, who chanted "how dare these researchers seek to justify child abuse" (which was not the point of the research article at all). They demanded that the APA have the published paper reassessed and retracted. Heather last week gave a link saying that the scientific body which was to be responsible for reassessing the paper did in fact refuse to do so, declaring that the paper had been properly refereed and examined in the normal scientific manner, and in no way would they waste their time repeating the effort. Instead, if other social scientists object to the findings, let them do further work and further research to refute the paper in an objective and scientifically rigorous manner. So that would tell me that not every body associated with the issue is giving in to political hysteria. Common sense has not yet been completely annihilated. F.O.D. |
