Given the human propensity for self-deception and denial, and the words of our Lord in Matthew 7:15-28, I think it's much more helpful if we each ask ourselves, "Am I a Christian?" I believe all the right things, but even the demons believe there is one God -- and tremble. (James 2:19) Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. (1 Corinthians 10:12) And there's always that bit about "judge not, lest ye also be judged" and "you will be judged according to the measure you use." Doctrine is one thing. We've been told to preserve the faith once delivered to the saints and to avoid false teachers. Speculating about someone's eternal destiny is quite another matter -- one which belongs in the hands of our merciful and long-suffering God. Dirk |
