Amen, Chris:

Yes, John chapter 6:25 - 71. This is what I believe a clear description of once saved, always saved. v39 - "All the Father gives me shall come to me, and I will lose none". However, this is qualified with the eating of the flesh, and drinking His blood,(v.54) of which many were offended of and left (v66). But His disciples clearly understood by the Holy Spirit, that this to be His Word (v.68,69). If we love His word, and hold onto His word, and are not affended and leave because of it then we have eternal life.

Also, a great amen to the fact we are not earning our way to heaven, but rather He gave His life freely for us. What a blessed hope! By grace through faith was the great call by Luther and other reformers to then the mainline Christian church. The call was examine the scriptures, and we can find confidence through them.

There is no doubt in my mind the Holy Spirit is constantly at work in us and through us, despite of ourselves. Praise God for that fact.

Chris, continue in that precious faith, and find your confidence in His words, not mans.

It is my understanding from - I John 1:4-10. Our growth is an upward spiral to the higher calling in Christ Jesus. We are not to practice habitual sins, but we are to walk with Jesus (v.6,7). When we do sin (and or slide backwards) we have an advocate with the Father, the blood of Jesus Christ (v.7,9). And no one should consider themselves sinlessly perfect, for God says we are all continually sining before Him (v.8,10).

Hope this is an encouragement to you.
Love in Christ,
Compassion... {:›)
