Grief

As I left for work today, my neighbor, an elderly woman that is probably in her 70s, stopped me and thanked me for the Christmas card I gave her this year. And then she continued to speak. She told me that her husband of over 45 years had died over the holidays. I never really saw much of this man but I knew he was confined to a wheelchair. He had a lot of medical problems and he was being taken to the hospital all the time for one thing after another. I know he must have been in pain.

As she talked to me about losing her husband, tears streamed down her face. She and I are merely neighbors and nothing more. We are not close friends and we normally just wave at each other and say hi when we pass each other. But she needed someone to listen to her today. She needed me. Although I was going to be late for work, I forgot everything else and took her hand and let her talk. She told me that her husband had been her entire life for the better part of four decades. And now he was gone. She told me that she does not feel like cooking or cleaning. She said she does not feel like watching television. She said everything she sees reminds her of her husband. I told her that I could truly not understand her pain. I have suffered loss of loved ones (I lost two sisters ages 35 and 41 within a span of two years a few years back)but I have never lost my partner/spouse/lover. I simply held her hand and let her talk about her husband and how she missed him.

We have all experienced grief. I have a friend that recently lost her beloved dog. He was a member of the family to my friend. I just mentioned my neighbor. Some of you that are BLs experience profound loss when you lose a YF. No matter, we do experience grief and loss.

When those times come that we feel like grief and sadness are going to overcome us, we should look to the Father. We should tell Him that the burden is too heavy for us. We should let Him remold our hearts and heal our hurts. One of the last things that my neighbor told me today about her husband was that he had told many people that he was ready to go to Heaven to meet God face to face. He was not afraid. This man loved God and he knew that there was a new kingdom waiting for him ahead. Wouldn't it be nice if all of us thought like this!

Thanks for listening to me. I pray that the Father helps and guides us to make the right decisions in our lives that set us in the right direction for an eternal life of peace with Him. God bless.

John 14:6 (by the way, this is my favorite scripture verse)
