for calling you Mark. I guess Moses fits in there! I have others, but I will tell you why Moses. You see Moses was brought up by the Egyptians right, but only after God had intervene to not only save Moses life, but also to put it back into the hands of his real mother till he was weaned [Exodus 2:1-10].

Now Moses was the son of Pharaoh of Egypt. That is second in command in the land. But we notice in v.12 that when Moses goes to kill the Egyptian soldier he looks this way and that. Why? Because he had no authority to kill the soldier. We know this because [v.15] Moses flees Pharaoh when he hears of what Moses did. Now I propose that Moses was in rebelion against God at this point. A hard statement to make! Yes! But true! Consider Romans 13 that states all authority is under the hand of God, and to rebell against that authority is to rebel against God. So by Moses knowingly disobey Pharaoh is to openly disobey God.

Now I told you Moses has a special place in my heart, because like him when I was young I rebelled against my father. I guess it is because I did not see him much. How I wanted him around, but my father was a workaholic. The only time I saw him was when he would drag me off to work with him. I guess that started when I was 8 or 9 and would go to the office on weekends to help file, clean, etc.

Now we notice that Moses runs to the land of Midian in flight of Pharaoh. And in the providential hand of God Moses is at Jacob's well. This well belonged to the children of Isreal who were in Egypt, so it was first come, first serve. Now the 7 daughters of the Priest of Midian come to the well first, but some shepherds were about to scare them off when Moses stands up for them. Here Moses was doing right, standing up for the innocent. As a result the daughters are home much earlier than usual, and their father notices this. He demands Moses be brought home, and he offers his daughter in marriage to Moses.

Now God is greatly involved in every step. You see God can not use a proud man, but a meek man He will use. God resisted the proud, and gives grace to the meek. Now Moses is entering the school of meekness provided by God. You see Moses new father-in-law, is also his landlord [he lives under his roof], his boss [he looks afte his sheep], his spiritual leader [being the Priest of Midian]. Now Moses is in a pressure cooker, the same man ruling over him for 40 yrs.

Here is where I was similar. I found myself going back to work for my father, moving into an apartment he owned, and he bought a company car for me as mine was done. So I too found myself under the one I dispised. This was extremely difficult, yet God worked in my life greatly over the next 3 yrs.

Now when God appears to Moses at the burning bush, he anounces he is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. You see God is! He is the one who upholds all things including the promises made to his forefathers. Funny you do not see Moses saying to God, 'Well where have you been'. Rather Moses goes on to give God seven excuses why he isn't worthy, and God's anger burns against Moses it says. Now at this point you would think if you got that clear of a direction you would just pack your bags and move out. No, but rather the opposite. You see if indeed God has called you to do something then He will open the doors. A matter fact if God calls you the best way to know is to ask the authorities over you if you can go, and if they say yes you know it is of God. Consider Proverbs 21:1, God moves the hearts of kings [actually better translated magistrates, or any in proper authority].

You see in Exodus 4:18, Moses goes back to his father-in-law Jethro to get permission. And Jethro gives his blessing. Like Moses this happened to me when learned meekness. For the meek shall inherit the earth. I too found as I submited to my father he gave me his blessing when the Lord called me into the ministry.

Love ye brother,
Compassion....:=)....how rich are his mercies.
