Physical Isreal today shows to us [spiritual Isreal] that God is faithful to his people. God still upholds physical Isreal not because they are better than any other nation, but because God is faithful to His chosen. I find this statement to be somewhat problematic, given that modern Israel is a police state which regularly arrests and tortures Christians simply because they happen to be of Arab descent instead of Jewish. Lord Arthur Balfour was absolutely correct when he said, "The treatment of the [Jewish] race has been a disgrace to Christendom." However, the treatment of the Palestinians has been a disgrace to modern Israel, and by extension, the United Nations, England, and America. It's also interesting to note that about a hundred years ago, "most Orthodox [Jewish] leaders were denouncing Zionism as a Jewish heresy." Both of these quotes are from Jewish Literacy by Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, published in 1991 by William Morrow and Co. Dirk |
