Once, when I was a teenager, I was in love with one of my friends and he with me. I knew this, he knew this, and we both recognized it as good. My mother recognized it also and said to me, "You're in love with him!" I thought, "Yes, isn't it wonderful." However, she continued, "It's horrible!" It took me many years to finally realize that she was wrong. It still strikes me as, well....crazy that so much more opprobrium is heaped on us for who we like or love than who we dislike of even despise. ---Ford |
