a test of faith...God wanted to see if he loved his son more than Him....but as Jules pointed out it was part of the culture of that day in pagan lands to offer your child on the altar to your god. The only difference today is that parents will offer up their children for wealth, new position in life, a better physical home, or other pleasures of this world. It is only God who can change the heart to see the child for who he is, an individual who needs love and caring, worth the sacrifice of wealth, new position in life, a better physical home, or other worldly things.
