Heather,

Thanks for entering this conversation. I feel, well, honored.

I think Curran and McNeil (among others) have received similar (but much milder) treatment by the church for proposing, based on case studies, the possibility that homosexual relationships are not always a bad thing. Indeed, Bishop Hunthausen was chastised for allowing groups based on McNeil's ideas to meet on church property. The idea that such relationships can, in fact, be good is not accepted as proven even among psychologists and sociologists. Most churches seem to view such an idea as a challenge and oppose it at every opportunity. Once again, the data are not allowed to speak for themselves.

For myself, if I saw on one hand a clear condemnation of homosexual relationships in sripture and on the other equally clear evidence of good, loving and productive relationships, I'd go with the evidence.

Over the past several years, I've been challenged to try to find a consistent explanation of data from my own life and from the lives of many others with whom I talked or read from. Only recently, have I had any success in understanding my own failures and possibly the failures of other properly intentioned people.....people acting out of love, yet reaping much anguish.

I hope to be able to put this in writing soon and present it here. I think scripture and authoritative church teaching are extremely important, yet there seem to be some questions that we still have to answer for ourselves based on our own lives and those of others.
