Hi F.O.D., "these signs will follow those who believe: in my name they shall cast out demons, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall handle serpents, and poison shall not harm them, they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Again, I believe that the scripture here is metaphoric, especially the part about handling the serpents. In support, I offer this from Matthew 15: 17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. What I'm trying to say is, the scripture about the serpent is telling us that the serpent (satan) can't harm us with his poison, if we have the protection of the Holy Ghost. It's not what we hear, see or feel that will hurt us, but what comes from inside us, from our hearts. If we keep our hearts right, the serpent's poison can't harm us. Andy |
